GET TO KNOW ME
As a professional, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience counseling teens and adults through their emotional health issues. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from St. Lawrence University and went on to receive my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Marist College. During my Master’s program, I interned as a counselor at a college counseling center, and after graduation, I worked for 5 years counseling teens, adults, and their families.
I understand how relationships with family members, difficult friendships, school and work commitments can all impact one’s mental health. I am comfortable treating individuals with a wide variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress and family conflict. I also have a unique understanding of the parent/teen relationship. I am skilled at, and enjoy, working with individuals undergoing life transitions. Going to college, getting a new job, starting a new relationship or getting married can all cause stress. Change is an inevitable part of life, and it can be scary and challenging, too!
I have specific training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. That said, one of the strongest predictors of success in therapy is the therapeutic relationship: the relationship between therapist and client. I’m a person, too! I take a humanistic approach in my practice. That means that I’ll treat you as an equal. After all, I’m not the expert on you - you are! With my training and experience, and your insight and capacity for growth, we can work together to make some real change in your life.
As a person, I am a lover of good food, cats, and reading. I have wanted to be a therapist since I was in elementary school. I am truly passionate about my work, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.
